Vegan and veganism. Just words or lifestyle?
The article will discuss in detail the nutrition system known as veganism, the possible ways of switching to it, frequently asked questions and its ethical component.
Veganism: Origin of the term
It is believed that in 1944 Donald Watson (Donald Watson, 1910-2005) organized the first "Vegan Society" in England, and then all that the new term meant was the following: vegetarian - the one who does not eat dairy. Later, as we know, the term included other concepts, and now it means eating foods that have only vegetable origin.
Both the words "vegetarianism" and "veganism/veganism" are derived from the English word "vegetable", which means "vegetable", and for correct pronunciation in the word "vegan" the emphasis falls on syllable 2. It will be interesting to know that until the middle of the XIX century the word vegetable was understood differently: it was any type of plant, including fruits, nuts and seeds.
Vegan and vegetarian are brothers, but not twins.
If vegetarianism as a system implies the rejection of meat products - poultry and seafood - it does not deny the inclusion in the diet of eggs, dairy and other products derived from the processing of animal organisms. Many understand veganism as a stricter form of vegetarianism that excludes all animal products from the diet, and this is generally true.
There are several types of both veganism and vegetarianism.
Vegetarianism is of the following types:
Vegetarianism - allows the consumption of both eggs (ovo) and dairy products (lacto).
Ovegetarianism - milk is excluded, but eggs (ovo) are still present.
Lactovegetarine> - dairy products (lacto) are included, but egg consumption is prohibited.
Why aren't vegans eating honey?
Because honey is the product of the exploitation of little beekeepers, which includes other beekeeping products.
Another type is cheese-eating, or strict veganism, where a person only eats fresh, not heat-treated food. The maximum assumption that some strict vegans can make is to eat dried products such as dried fruit. Food lovers can use a dehydrator, but the temperature should not exceed 48°C, as it is believed that above this mark bioactive elements and food enzymes are destroyed.
These are the main categories of these two broad and popular trends in modern nutrition.
Diets and their impact on us. The benefits of the vegan diet system
Many people think about diets when they start to look after their figure, so even the word 'diet' is associated with appearance - replacing the set of products and their quantity, from which the menu is composed, and the skin of the face will be cleaned, tightened tummy, removed fat deposits and so on.
To some extent, veganism is also looked at. There are undeniable facts in his favor, among which is the fact that vegans do have clean skin, nothing can be done - what is true, what is true. At the same time, they do not make any special efforts or procedures to make their skin look like that. The effect is achieved only through nutrition.
Vegans have good digestion because their diet is rich in fiber: fruits, vegetables, and certain cereals are saturated with fiber, so the digestion process does not last as long as people on a regular diet. Just remember that the same chicken in the stomach alone can stay for about 12 hours, and there is still to go through meters of small and large intestines, it is no wonder that digestion really takes a long time and puts a lot of stress on all internal organs and the excretion system.
Vegans have a stronger nervous system and are therefore more stress-resistant. In general, these people are more balanced and therefore more pleasant to communicate, provided that the person is not doing "missionary work," trying to convert everyone they meet into their new "faith" - veganism.
Balance and serenity are directly related to the fact that a well-balanced vegan menu includes a huge number of trace elements and vitamins, purified from the heavy energies of animal food, and therefore beneficial to all body systems, including the nervous system. For the most part, these people are cheerful and less irritated, in general, the details of life are relegated to the background, they no longer play such a big role as before. Here we also come out with the theme of changing consciousness. Of course, by changing nutrition radically, it cannot but affect the way of thinking of a person, his consciousness, even the picture of the world will gradually change.
